Chapter Overview

ISM—Central Indiana, Inc, formerly The National Association of Purchasing Management of Indianapolis Inc., was originally started in September 1917 as the Purchasing Agents Association of Indianapolis. Our focus was to foster and promote the interchange of ideas and cooperation of our members in the commercial and government purchasing communities.

As our profession developed, so did our offerings to our members and our focus in support of our members. As a result, in February 1938, we were incorporated as a Not-for-Profit corporation. In June 1968, we changed our name to the Purchasing Management Association of Indianapolis, Inc. and in 1992, we changed our name to the National Association of Purchasing Management of Indianapolis, Inc. Further, we became affiliated with the Institute of Supply Management, Inc. ISM is the largest supply management association in the world and is known for its standards of excellence, research, and education.

In 2012, we officially became ISM—Central Indiana, reflecting our ongoing commitment to members throughout the region.

Our Vision:

ISM—Central Indiana will serve as a center of excellence in establishing and maintaining best-in class professional standards of competency and conduct for the Procurement Profession and its members, in matters pertaining to research, education, and certification.
